Case Study

Current Projects

New Build Raynes Park

Project:
The original brief was for a ground floor rear extension, modest changes at first floor and bedrooms in the loft.  Enthusiastic participation by the clients left very little of the original house untouched and it was eventually decided to demolish it and re-build from scratch.  This simplified the construction of the basement and allowed the entire house to be constructed in accordance with current eco-standards.

The architectural challenge was accommodating the 1.5m level change between the garden and the main ground floor level.  This has been achieved inside the family / dining / kitchen with the kitchen and dining areas at the higher level and the family sitting area at lower level directly related to the garden but with a 4.5m ceiling height.   External courtyards have been incorporated into the living spaces, maximising the potential of the site.

Refurbishment West Wimbledon

Project:
An Arts and Crafts house contributes to the streetscape but was wholly inadequate for the needs of our clients in terms of accommodation, servicing and thermal performance.  While the street-facing facade has been retained the rest of the house has been demolished apart from the gable walls.  This allows the construction of a ground floor rear extension accommodating a family dining/kitchen opening out to the garden, a formal sitting room in the old kitchen and a study in the old garage.  A full basement extends under the bulk of the ground floor while at first floor bedrooms have been extended and en suites introduced.  A new roof incorporates a master bedroom suite in the roofspace.

Refurbishment Coombe

Project:
This property is situated next to an existing natural pond at the end of a quiet road on a private estate.  Previously unrelated to its gardens to the east and to the west and outdoor space, it provided an opportunity to open a new family/kitchen/ living room out in both directions to link the house to both gardens.  At the same time the downstairs cloakroom, previously closing the end of the hall, was removed to afford access directly from the front door into this space.  The staircase was turned 180 degrees to allow a double volume hallway with rooflights.  Two new bedrooms over the family area open out onto terraces at first floor while the old kitchen has been converted into a guest suite.
